Mineral Accents refers to a line of cubic zirconia (CZ) crystals and minerals offered by Jewelry Material Innovations, Inc. (JMI) in a variety of colors for adding enhancements to silver and gold jewelry settings. They are prepared from large pieces of by a proprietary process that yields small particles suitable for inlaying into jewelry settings. The particles exhibit high reflectivity and sparkle because of the many facets created by the fracturing process. They are available in a wide range of colors that span the visible spectrum. It is recommended that they be inlaid into recessed regions of jewelry settings so that the sides of the recessed regions provide protection against abrasion. A number of methods exist for attaching Mineral Accents to jewelry, as described JMI's information sheet titled Instructions for Attaching Mineral Accents to Silver Clay Settings.
Mineral Accents can be applied to both fine and sterling silver settings. If a method of attachment to sterling silver is used that involves heating the sterling piece above about 840F (450C), a dark layer, or fire scale, may form that will require subsequent removal. Depletion gild the sterling piece using any method of attachment that requires a high temperature. Doing this eliminates the need to remove fire scale after Mineral Accents have been attached.
The lustrous sparkle of Mineral Accents in colors of your choosing can be used to create strikingly beautiful effects in both silver and yellow gold jewelry.
