MEET YUNTING LI
Yunting Li’s porcelain works are nothing short of masterful. Her early fascination with this delicate medium led her to study in two of the world’s most renowned porcelain-producing regions: Jingdezhen, China, and Arita, Japan.
Yunting graduated in 2014 from Jingdezhen Ceramic University in China with a degree in Ceramic Arts and Design, where she specialized in the art of Qing Hua Ci—traditional cobalt underglaze painting on porcelain (blue and white ware). Her passion for porcelain then took her to Arita, Japan, where she earned her postgraduate degree in 2017 from the Arita Ceramic College (now part of Saga University).
In Arita, Yunting studied under her primary Sensei, Terui Itigen (照井一玄), celebrated for his fluid forms and vibrant overglaze decoration. She also had the rare privilege of direct instruction from the late Sensei Mangi Inoue, designated a National Living Treasure and recognized as an Important Intangible Cultural Property for Hakuji (white porcelain). Her focus of study in Japan encompassed ceramic engineering, glaze development, wheel-throwing, and painting.
Today, Yunting resides in California, where she serves as a studio instructor at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) and works as a glaze specialist with Laguna Clay Company.
